solo mom-ing
We made it! to thursday. I’m notorious for not knowing what day of the week it is because let’s face it. being a stay at home mom married to a cyclist, normal work days don’t hold much relevance in our lives. except in knowing which days to avoid certain errands like the curmudgeon I am.
Neilson has been gone for over a week now and will be back in less than a week. Just a long weekend and he’s back for a few days. Counting down days feels tedious and drawn out once the spring season starts.
I regularly tell him at nighttime that I have accomplished nothing in the day. I will say, as the week goes on, the days are getting progressively shorter because bedtime seems to be inching its way earlier and earlier into the day.
Over the weekend, I went to the citrus festival in Menton with a friend and we perused olympic themed statues made out of lemons. On Sunday, on a day of endless rain, I started introducing purées into Charlotte’s little world. and my little world of dishes seems to have multiplied. ocd mom has to take the backseat on this one while carefree, fun mom lets the sweet potato cover walls and floors and clothes. and finds its way into the shower and onto our couch.
Today, I took a tour of Nice with my very knowledgeable, local tour guide friend and voraciously typed names and dates into my notes app, kicking myself for not having done this sooner for all my visitors. Which means if you’ve visited us already, you need to come back now so that I can inform you. I will say I was able to add to her tour my comprehensive list of the best stores to shop in.
I’m now sat down with a Stanley full of water and my dinner of emergency frozen stuffed pasta shells because I’m about worn out of cooking and dishes and tiny laundry. and using my mental energy to remember when my child pooped last.
They say the days are long, but the years are fast. Which isn’t really what a tired mom wants to hear. but I do spend every night before bed looking through photos and videos of Charlotte, realizing how much she’s changing before our eyes.
