visitors
I’ve been a bit mia over here because last week as soon as the tour started, I had some visitors from Texas in town. They were staying at the Negresco, so I got to see into their unique rooms and hallways filled with antiques and incredible art. We spent an afternoon at the Negresco beach club, went to lunch in the café du jardin-part of la chèvre d’or in Èze, spent a morning taking a boat around the coast and hopping out to swim and snorkel with the little schools of fish.
I went to a Parcels concert with friends on Wednesday. The first concert I’ve been to since Shania Twain in NYC many years ago. It was such a beautiful venue, overlooking the sea and the band was just perfect summer night vibes. Might have woken up with a headache the next morning…
We’ve had some playdates with friends and been enjoying the very warm weather. I unfortunately am now down to one functioning portable ac unit for the apartment.
a move
Also during the course of the last week, I got an exciting email from our realtor about an apartment he had found for us to check out. A few months ago, Neilson had mentioned to him that we were looking for somewhere with AC and a bit more space/open floor plan. We hadn’t heard anything and we weren’t in much of a rush but this spot came up serendipitously. I went to view it and the owner showed us around their beautiful flat. They renovated it within the last three years, and most importantly it has all kinds of crawling/play space for kids because they themselves had two little ones. There’s also an annexed office where I could finally have space for a Gyrotonic tower!
We’re so excited but also feel like the timing and availability of this apartment could not have been more perfect. Sometimes these things just fall into place. With housing here, we’ve learned you have to act really quickly at the rate things move. So have your list of non-negotiables before you even start looking.
On that note, my creative wheels are turning and I wake up every day with different ideas for the space and how we can make it our own! I love watching youtube home tours. I often watch House and Garden UK or Living with Style by the Sunday times, because I find that townhomes and flats in the UK have a similar layout or space division to our places here. At least more similar than an American ranch home with a yard etc.
When we viewed the apartment it had pretty simple furniture from ikea and contemporary brands, so I’m itching to get my eclectic selection of french thrift and antique finds in there to add some charm and character. And really make it our own.
We’re not moving until mid August, so it’s good to force me to step on the brakes and really take my time before collecting more “stuff” or furniture.
Making spaces a home is something I’ve come to love more and more. Studying what makes a space cozy or sterile feeling. And each change in our family, whether it’s a move, a bike or baby, forces me to reevaluate and constantly be shuffling things around/making them work for what we need them to in each phase as it appears.
