a *capri* inspired summer
Lately, it seems like everyone’s in Capri. Partly due to reading villa coco, this newsletter from Jessie Randall, Dua Lipa’s well documented wedding, reformation x courtney grow and the pop apologists. Oh and we watched the talented mr ripley earlier.
Although I have no personal plans to go to capri any time soon, we had pizza for dinner, and sliced melon e prosciutto as a pre world cup watching snack.
And with that, welcome to an Italian summer.
Picture affogatos, black and white photos of jackie o exiting a rattan seat fiat, weathered jazz records, striped beachside chairs. Picture painted yet? Lambrusco popped?
Anyways, just some fun ideas to bring a bit of that home.
a good book
On summer Fridays when our nanny is with the kids, it’s a personal resolution to cap off the week with a swim. Often I bike with friends to the beach when the early evening sun is a bit gentler, but they were working late yesterday so I opted for a mid morning jaunt.
I picked up a pain au chocolat and nectarine and tuned into Amy Poehler’s latest interview with Greta Lee as I headed out. Luckily there was a bit of a breeze, so the air wasn’t too hot and I dried off quickly after my swim. I read for a bit too long in the sun and slipped on a vintage french nightgown and flip flops to head home for a proper everything shower before finishing off the book and shooting messages to every person who needs me to recommend it to them.
Just the summer reading escape I needed in my life.
hydrating in the heat
In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a heatwave across Europe this week and luckily we aren’t being hit quite as hard as Paris and even London, but the temps are brutal. I get a bit neurotic about sneaking hydration into my kids when the temperatures are hot. Splash pads, shady parks and avène thermal water spray are also necessary essentials.
smoothies- I do a version of haley bieber’s erewhon smoothie I found on pinterest…frozen strawberries, banana, greek yogurt, oat milk and ice
a simple salad-arugula, bell pepper, cucumber, tomatoes, feta, green onions, roasted chickpeas, all chopped up and tossed with red wine vinager and olive oil. added in some picked red onions I had in the fridge too. All but the arugula keeps and the rest marinates for a quick lunch
iced coffee-espresso mixed with vanilla syrup poured over a big cup of ice and oat milk
cut fruits in the fridge-I have a glass pyrex bowl with a lid that seals and it rotates between watermelon, cantelope and kiwis, whatever I have chopped at the moment. Much easier to snack on this way.
happy weekend! xxf
