Nestled between the heat and excitement of July and just before the temperatures start dropping in September, lies August. In past Augusts, we’ve retreated to the texas heat to prepare for incoming fall babies. This one is different as we stay put and those around us swarm about.
We’ve enjoyed final days with grandparents-swimming in the sea and having tea parties and special treats. Charlotte has two days left of crèche before she graduates to big girl school and Remy follows us all around the house with his one legged scootch, always keeping us on our toes. There’s endless laundry to be done and floors to be scrubbed and I’m trying to lean into the mess that is August.
Neilson is off racing in poland, so it’s just us three musketeers holding the fort down for the rest of the week.
on home and motherhood //
A home is a time a mother spends a lot of time in. A lot of time fluffing and a lot of time cleaning. but it’s also my privilege every morning to wake up and decide what kind of world I’m creating for my kids. One full of imagination and playtime and snacks, but also trying to instill the value of tidy-ness and organization and using creativity to find ways to entertain themselves.
The house will never be tip top clean in this season of life, but I’ve learned to love the little messes. The magnatiles I find hidden under my pillow. The barbies left in the bathtub. The tiny pairs of shoes stacked up at the entryway.
inspired by //
I search for inspiration in the places I visit, while exploring. But often the inspiration strikes the days after, when I’ve returned home and lay awake at night putting words together to describe what I’ve experienced.
Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about beauty. Is it truly in the eye of the beholder? Or is it in the person who makes it.
I feel lucky to surround myself by people who I constantly find inspiration from. For work ethic, or organization, or patience, or cooking abilities, or taste. And I love getting to watch those different worlds of people come together and connect around the table, chopping vegetables, or mixing cocktails

a sweet anecdote //
My daughter just came in and said “mommy, do you miss daddy?” to which I always say yes, and she said “oh sweet girl, I’m right here”. Maybe we are doing something right after all 🤪

To me, it looks like you are doing soooo much right!! Love re-experiencing the mothering of littles while feathering the nest.
