ushering in summer
When I think of summer, I think of long, sun-drenched afternoons stretching into evening.
After dinner walks to get gelato.
Apéro on the beach that bleeds into a 9pm sunset viewing.
Open windows with the breeze blowing through.
The sound of birds chirping as I write.
Bowls of stone fruits and tomatoes on the counter.
Walks with friends that end with a dip in the sea.
Chilled sauvignon blanc.
Easy bowls of pasta thrown together at the last minute.
Bouquets of peonies.
Sunscreen, sweat and saltwater in a never ending cycle.
Straw bags full of toys and books or a swimsuit thrown in at the last minute.
A freshly chopped bob.
Bowls of torn burrata and basil and tomatoes.
on motherhood
We had another holiday this week and life felt a bit like groundhog day making meals for two tiny mouths 3x a day. Some weeks, motherhood is a grind. A potty training, magna-tile, bottle making, laundry folding grind.
And then I got the chance to go to the beach on Sunday afternoon with girlfriends sans kids and felt lost (maybe even bored?) without kids to chase around.
It’s a beautiful, weird conundrum and some days I have to remind myself not to overthink everything and just enjoy this season of life knowing it’s not forever.
I struggle with a lot of “should be” and “could be” moments, but trying to challenge myself to come out of that trap and just be.
